What it Sold For: John Lautner's Gantvoort Residence

New, 16 comments

There are many interesting architectural homes sitting on the market and many are dropping in price. And here's one that we've been tracking: Architect John Lautner's Gantvoort Residence at 3778 Hampstead Road in La Canada Flintridge. It came on the market about in spring 2008 listed at $2.2 million, In September it underwent a meaty hack, dropping to $1.791 million. Well, it found a buyer. The sale closed on January 2nd--the home went for $1.525 million. "It was a young couple, they loved the house, and they have no interest in doing anything with it [ie tear it down]," Sam Buchanan, the listing agent tells us. "When I stopped by, the husband was oiling the wood." The couple have a young daughter and they work in the entertainment industry. That's terrific news. Who isn't insanely jealous right now. Meanwhile, that Lautner in Glendale is still available--it's been hacked down to $1.573 million.
