Earlier this month, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art announced they would unveil a big surprise today. Well, here it is: Local couple Lynda and Stewart Resnick, who apparently made a killing off in the flower business, have donated $45 million to the museum, and in return, we are all getting the new Lynda and Stewart Resnick Exhibition Pavilion at LACMA, reports the Los Angeles Times. Architect Renzo Piano, who'd designed phase 1 of the museum, is behind the project (his involvement had already been announced, but the Resnick's gift is news). More description of the project, which'll debut in 2010, via Michael Govan, LACMA's director and chief executive. "Architecturally, the pavilion will be a clear relative of the taller Broad building. Like the Broad, its roof will feature a saw-toothed configuration of panels that will allow carefully filtered light to pour in. Govan likened the new pavilion in some respects to the Dia: Beacon building, the former Nabisco factory on the Hudson River that was converted into a museum during Govan's tenure as director of the New York-based Dia Art Foundation." Additionally, the Resnicks, will be giving LACMA artworks valued at $10 million. We're heading to the press conference and will post photos of the model of the pavilion shortly.
