City Lobbyists May Have To Wear "Scarlet L"

New, 10 comments

Playing the Nazi card is alive and well in LA's City Hall, where a proposal by the city council to require lobbyists to wear badges identifying their profession has met with a little, um, resistance. According to the LA Times, lobbyists have "gone so far as to liken the proposed badge to the Star of David imposed on Jews in Nazi-era Germany. 'I refuse to wear the equivalent of a yellow arm band,' said lobbyist Harvey Englander, whose firm has represented hotels near Los Angeles International Airport that fought a new living wage law for their employees." The badge proposal will be reviewed over the next two months and would need approval by the City Council. Meanwhile, the lobbyists are stating that nonprofits and homeowners associations should have to register if they have to, too. [LA Times]
