On the Racked: Bloomingdale's to Santa Monica Place, Politics at the Grove, Fashion at LACMA

The latest store info and sidewalk scenes from street-obsessed Racked LA, the newest member of the Curbed family.

SANTA MONICA: Sweet Bloomingdale's action! The department is coming to the renovated Santa Monica Place, which is scheduled to re-open next fall. Bloomingdale's will join Nordstrom as a department store anchor at Santa Monica Place, replacing the Macy's store. But this won't be one of the big Bloomingdale's stores, but one of their smaller ones (similar to the one they have on Broadway in New York's Soho neighborhood). Also, the $155-million renovation will allow for ocean views from the roof, according to the latest released renderings.

THE GROVE: Wait a sec. Isn't any type of public statement or protesting illegal at the Grove? Well, a McCain campaign table has been operating at the outside mall. Let's hope Grove developer Rick Caruso also allows an Obama table to come, too.

MID-WILSHIRE: LACMA's 'LA Flash' exhibit was held this past Saturday, which took another look at fashion street scenes taken in 1973 by a variety of photographers. As part of the exhibit, new street scenes pictures were taken. Racked stopped by and also took photos; see the whole gallery of cute young things here.
