The LAPD intends to start cleaning up the detritus lining South LA streets and alleys, reports Robert Lopez of the Los Angeles Times. A task force will be set up to target the area's worst alleys with surveillance teams, make arrests, and impound vehicles used to transport refuse dumped on public property. The Times had reported earlier on the problem of public garbage-dumping, noting that trash (including dead animals and boats) festered for weeks in South LA alleys. [LA Times]
