We still don't understand how Philippe Starck could be involved with such an ugly building, previously dubbed the Excel Spreadsheet Building by Curbed commenters. However, we receive word that the project may not survive in its current form, if at all, due to the current state of the economy.
"The Starck building at 10777 Wilshire will be back at the Westwood Community Design Review Board (despite being approved in April) on Sept. 3 to scale-back the project and remove some costly architectural elements "due to the economy." Since it was only approved 4-3 the first time, I'm not sure the scaled-back version will be successful." Per Coco Clayman-Cook's blog, the original plan for the building included "27 ultra luxury condominium estates" with 24 hour concierge services, a private movie theater, a resort style pool, jacuzzis and a sundeck.
