Jay-Z To Re-Open Palladium, But What Will Theater Look Like?

New, 12 comments

Despite news of a union dispute and possible financing snafus over at the Palladium, today it was announced that rapper/singer Jay Z will re-open the venue on October 15th. Earlier this month, it was reported that renovations of the 68-year-old Sunset Boulevard theater had been complicated by a dispute between current tenant Live Nation and Local 33, who want the theater to hire union stage hands. A $2.5 million loan is needed to finish the project, and there was worry that the Palladium owners were "just going to slap a couple coats of paint on the building, put up the old sign and walk away." Did they get they money? Did the union dispute get settled? Unsure, but renovations continue: As of last weekend, the metal rod (pictured above) that used to hold the old Palladium sign was gone. According to the LA Times, Jay-Z's October performance will be backed by a 12-piece band; tickets go on sale Sept. 5.
