Belmont Station: Dogs Will Roam Where Trains Once Did

New, 19 comments

Here's a look at the train mural going up at Belmont Station Apartments, that new 275-unit apartment complex on Second Street near Downtown. We've been watching the construction on this building for a while; this whole area is behind Belmont Station while that second gray structure is the old substation*. The area will hold a dog park for this new apartment complex, which recently was profiled by Ryan Vaillancourt in the Downtown News. From the DN: "The old train station Belmont Tunnel was a portal near the corner of Second Street and Glendale Avenue through which Pacific Electric Red Cars zipped Angelenos entering or leaving Downtown Los Angeles." The building, which opened for move-ins last week, pays homage to the trains (which haven't run since the 1950s, according to the article) with numerous black and white photos in its lobby and hallways. Flickr photos of the tunnel can be seen here. UPDATED.
