Construction Watch: 360 at South Bay

New, 16 comments

The weeds are steadily growing taller on the parched land that was supposed to be the new, hip, "mini-Playa Vista," 625-unit housing development known as 360 at South Bay in Hawthorne. While a few model units were built on the site along with a monument sign, all that exists is the unfinished foundations of a few buildings. The project's web site has gone bare bones and now features an interest list sign-up, a map and this disclaimer:

"Sales opportunities are temporarily unavailable while we give the market time to improve. We're looking forward to reopening this cutting-edge community and welcoming you again soon. There continues to be a lot of interest in 360."
Meanwhile, the rest of Hawthorne seems to be stirring with the promise of a Grove-style mall developed by Ike Mbelu, the nephew of His Royal Highness Igwe Orizu III, the reigning monarch of Nnewi, Nigeria. Fascinating.
