Press-Telegram Lofts Changed, Approved

New, 3 comments

A revised, partially downscaled, loft project has been approved for the former Press-Telegram Building in Long Beach, reports Karen Robes Meeks of the Press-Telegram. The project, as described in a July 16th story, will take the former home of the Press-Telegram Newspaper and convert it into 542 "affordable" condos at the corner of Pine and Sixth.

The new design involves removing one of the two towers, adding a fifth story to the structure over the Meeker-Baker Building, and lowering the commercial space square footage to 30,000 and the number of parking spaces to 947.

The number of units, about 542, remains the same, but the average size of each residential unit would shrink from 900 square feet to 797 square feet.

The project web site identifies units starting in the low-$300s.
