A revised, partially downscaled, loft project has been approved for the former Press-Telegram Building in Long Beach, reports Karen Robes Meeks of the Press-Telegram. The project, as described in a July 16th story, will take the former home of the Press-Telegram Newspaper and convert it into 542 "affordable" condos at the corner of Pine and Sixth.
The new design involves removing one of the two towers, adding a fifth story to the structure over the Meeker-Baker Building, and lowering the commercial space square footage to 30,000 and the number of parking spaces to 947.The project web site identifies units starting in the low-$300s.The number of units, about 542, remains the same, but the average size of each residential unit would shrink from 900 square feet to 797 square feet.
