Anti-Gang Initiative Keeps Parks Open Longer

New, 6 comments

Mayor Villaraigosa wants you throw a frisbee without worrying about errant gunfire--that's why he launched the Summer Night Lights program, which extends the hours of eight city parks until midnight, says the Los Angeles Times. Starting on the Fourth of July and lasting until Labor Day, parks in Pacoima, Cypress Park, Glassell Park, South LA, and Boyle Heights will be under the supervision of some local youths who will have received gang intervention training. Dubious Debbies can be assuaged that a similar program in Baldwin Hills dramatically cut down, er reduced, violent crime. [LA Times]
