“We will start this project with questions. In the 21st century how can an art museum invigorate and maintain significance within the local and global context?” A statement by architect Thom Mayne, who has been picked by the Orange County Museum of Art to build its new building, planned for the Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa. Mayne's Morphosis firm is behind such projects as downtown's Caltrans building; the museum is expected to finish the building by 2013. [NY Times]
