Did anybody sing a little ditty on Friday commemorating the passage of Prop 13 thirty years ago? Yeah, we forgot, too. Love it or hate it, Prop 13 defines who we all are today - unhealthy, illiterate, fee-afflicted simpletons. "The measure spawned a generation of anti-tax Republicans in California politics and across the country. My colleagues and sources have blamed it for everything from the dysfunction in the schools to pot holes in our roads, drownings at our beaches, fires in our forests, gangs in our cities and the sorry state of public health care, not to mention an explosion in direct democracy and the use of the initiative as a policy weapon." Yeah, that sounds about right. [Sacramento Bee/image via Alameda Daily Noose]
