Blogging on rumors that Americana at Brand/Grove developer Rick Caruso will run for mayor, William Fulton, senior scholar at the USC School of Policy, Planning and Development and publisher of the California Planning & Development Report, writes: "Imagine if [Caruso] lost! You’d never see another Caruso project in Los Angeles again – and Villaraigosa would use all his political leverage to make sure that suburban cities shut Caruso down too." Fulton's basic theory: If Caruso makes Villaraigosa's life hell, the mayor will flex his political power with the Planning Commission. [CP&DR]
