A mixed-use project consisting of housing, a commercial space, and an art center will rise on the site of Acres of Books, "a beloved bookstore in downtown Long Beach that will be closing its doors after nearly seven decades in business, and nearly five decades at its current Long Beach Boulevard," according to today's Press Telegram. Sold for $2.8 million to the Long Beach Redevelopment Agency, the book store--which will move to another location outside of Long Beach---was frequented by author Ray Bradbury, who stopped by Acres yesterday to share memories of the place. According to an earlier Press-Telegram story, the forthcoming development will serve as a connector between Long Beach's downtown and the East Village. Via Kenn Christ [Press Telegram]
