Compton Goes Board Crazy, Gets Skatepark

New, 15 comments

It's taken five years, but Compton is finally getting its own skatepark. Slated to open September 15th, the 12,000-square-foot park, located inside Wilson Park at 123 N. Rose Ave, will feature a kidney-shaped bowl, a street course area, banks, ledges, rails and steps. Per the LA Wave: "Funding for the nearly $500,000, park will come from grants, such as The Roberti-Z'Berg-Harris Grant, which awarded the city $157,000 in 2002 to get the project started, and the Tony Hawk Foundation, a major collaborator in the concept design, which contributed more than $10,000." The park is designed by local firms Charles H. Strawter Design and Wally Hollyday Design. [Image of Cove Skatepark in Santa Monica via Wally Hollyday Design.]
