McMansion Law Doesn't Apply To Hillsides; Sunset Mansion Drama?

New, 24 comments

Today's Los Angeles Times story is ostensibly about how builders can get around the new McMansion law by building on the city's hillsides (the laws only applies to the flatlands) but the piece mentions the "32,000-square-foot beaux-arts mansion" rising on Sunset, the site of the former home of Saudi Sheik Mohammed al Fassi (his home burned down). But there are actually two big homes rising on Sunset (they are in the gallery)--and someone left a rumor on our site last year that there was a big rivalry between these two mansion owners. What's the drama and have they made up? [Photos taken this spring]
