New Downtown School Hopes You Had An Excellent Weekend

New, 11 comments

While parka-clad Angelenos headed to the beach this weekend, a new downtown school was blinking welcome messages to its neighbors: "Happy Memorial Day Weekend From the Edward R Roybal Learning Center." Roybal, a California politician, is now attending classes at a learning center high up in the sky, but his namesake is nearly completed, according to the Downtown News, which writes that the school at First and Beaudry will be finished by the end of May. The exterior looks pretty much done, however; total cost for all that green learning: $350 million. Meanwhile, the adjacent park is supposed to be finished by July. This school joins a long list of planned and under-construction LAUSD schools making a significant and puzzling architectural mark on the city.
