Last week South LA transit activist Damien Goodmon launched accusations of environmental racism at Metro for what he claims are poor design decisions relating to the under-construction Expo Line light rail--Goodmon wants the train to be placed in a trench rather run than at street level. Today Darrell Clarke of the longstanding Friends 4 Expo Transit counters with an editorial of his own. Via CityWatch: "The claim of 'environmental racism' is indeed disturbing. Especially since the Expo Line meets or exceeds the standard of light rail in other cities, has extensive safety measures and other mitigations, and there are actually more grade separations in Los Angeles' minority communities than in Culver City." Emotions are running high, lawsuits are being filed and traffic continues to suck. When will the madness end?
