Who would imagine a tower constructed out of found materials, steel, wire, and seashells would be so delicate? The Watts Towers are restricting public tours starting Monday until Feb while the city repairs damage from the 2004-05 rain storms. Why such a long repair time? Apparently, it takes a lot of time and money ($569,000 in FEMA funds) to build scaffolding around a structure that can't be leaned on. Via flickr user danagraves. [LA Times]
