Thanks for the comment feedback to these excellent reader generated questions. We have at least some partial info for each one. Please feel free to email us at la@curbed.com if you have new questions or updates. We also really appreciate digital pictures.
1) Hollywood: We called the Church of Scientology to find out the details/background/explanation with the partially completed building on the Fountain Avenue side of their Hollywood headquarters property. The person we spoke with promised to get back to us. When we receive an answer, we'll let you know.
2) Torrance: We called our oom-pa-pa friends at Alpine Village who informed us that the Oktoberfest area is getting remodeled, however, not to worry, it will be open in time for Oktoberfest. The person we spoke with was unsure if it was being expanded or just improved.
3) Hollywood: The building at 1963 Cahuenga, the El Padre Apartments, appears to be undergoing some major remodeling. Per Building & Safety Records a permit was issued on May 5th to repair and replace all water pipes in all units in the building. From way back in 2006, we found this blurb from GlobeSt. "“Urban Holdings, a managing member of Urban Eco Housing LLC, has begun renovations on a 104-unit residential and retail property at 1963 N. Cahuenga Blvd. that was built in 1925.” The property, in the historic Whitley Heights neighborhood, was purchased for approximately $6 million in July 2005. In addition to the residences, it includes six ground-floor retail and commercial spaces totaling 8,000 square feet, with parking."
4) Cheviot Hills: Regarding the development on Roxbury that isn't marketing itself, we would tend to agree with the commenter who said: "If i had to guess about the Cheviot Hills condos, they might be keeping their options open for rentals in this market. The contractor might not be on top of those kinds of decisions." We tried tracking the property down but with the info provided we weren't able to find it. More info please (cross streets would help).
