View from a Loft reports from yesterday's ground breaking for the Carver Apartments, a six-story 95-unit complex at 17th Street. Affordable housing, the Carver Apartments will house homeless who have recently been released from hospitals, reports the blog. Architecture footnote? Designed by Michael Maltzan Architecture, "the apartments sit in a saw toothed cylinder on a fragmented parcel next to a bend in the road. Rather than retreating and hiding the disabled, the introduced project will engage both building and resident with the rest of Downtown." The project joins other affordable housing downtown projects such as the recently-covered Abbey Apartments.
