ConstructionWatch: Downtown's Abbey Apartments

New, 5 comments

While we wait for someone to write an article about how the real estate downturn will impact those who live on downtown's Skid Row, let's check out construction at Abbey Apartments, a 115-unit affordable housing building at 625-633 San Pedro. Designed by Santa Monica-based Koning Eizenberg Architects (of Venice's Abbot Lofts) and built by the Skid Row Housing Trust, it's described as a five-story residence with single occupancy units, offices, community spaces, and supportive services. It joins architect Michael Maltzan's award-winning Rainbow Apartments--also affordable housing--on San Pedro and will be completed in 2008, according to the architect's web site.
