If three things make a trend, consider banning smoking in residential units officially popular. Last November, a San Mateo-based real estate group implemented a non-smoking policy for all its new multi-family development communities (people can't even smoke on balconies). And in February, the Calabasas City Council ushered in "no smoking" rules in rental units in its city. And now Santa Monica has introduced a new revised ordinance that prohibits smoking in all common areas of multi-unit residential buildings. [The Argonaut]
