Following last week's news that downtown is getting a sign district comes news that Koreatown may be getting a whole bunch of sparkly signs, too. Via the Inbox: "City Councilman Herb Wesson has introduced a motion to designate most of Koreatown—a 120-square block area—a sign supplemental use district. If approved, this will allow digital billboards, supergraphic signs, and other kinds of signage not currently permitted by current city codes. Wesson had pushed last year for a large video billboard on the Korean Consulate building on Wilshire Blvd. (pictured above, previous story here) but that sign was given the thumbs down by the city’s Board of Building and Safety Commissioners on the grounds that it would visually blight the area and potentially distract drivers and cause a traffic hazard."
