Know Your Disaster

Bad news. All the pretty development we've been reporting on will be destroyed in a horrific earthquake set to strike Southern California sometime between now and 2037. Via nbc4: "New calculations reveal there is a 99.7 percent chance a magnitude 6.7 quake or larger will strike in the next 30 years." More disaster excitement: The OC Register also reports that should watery peril strike, we'll all be confused by tsunami warning sirens and will likely be washed out into the ocean. "Sirens may be ineffective unless those hearing the warning know what to do, through signage or other means. Public education is largely directed at permanent residents and overlooks visitors. Yet, on warm summer days, visitors may outnumber residents and be at greater risk in a tsunami due to inadequate information about tsunamis." [nbc4/OC Register]
