Palmdale's Abandoned Homes An Eyesore For City

New, 15 comments

According to the Daily News, Palmdale is dealing with so many foreclosed and abandoned houses that the city passed an ordinance that puts more responsibility on banks and lenders, and is designed to prevent the homes "from deteriorating and becoming safety hazards or magnets for crime." According to the paper, it's becoming rather ugly in Palmdale, i.e., brown grass, trash and pools turning into "cesspools." The city pays $10,000 to $12,000 each month to drain pools and secure the premises of these homes; in some cases, city officials can't even find the former owners. Random silver lining: These homes would make an excellent photo essay for some budding photographer. [Daily News]
