Eastward Ho! Gold Line To March Past East LA

New, 41 comments

There's no stopping the Gold Line, people. Currently being constructed through Downtown's Arts District and Boyle Heights into East LA, Metro is now planning a second eastside extension through Monterey Park, Montebello, Pico Rivera, or Whittier—and just released a map of possible routes. Via Streetsblog, we learn community meetings to narrow down the paths will take place April 9 and 17. This second eastside extension would be in addition to the planned Foothill extension on the other side of the line, that would stretch the Gold Line to, or close to, the Ontario Airport. Maybe they should just bring the damn thing to Vegas.

Of the 16 alternatives for the extension, residents seem to gunning for the Whittier alternative that run down Whittier Blvd. and along the Pomona Freeway. They say that route would alleviate traffic on the freeway and connect residents to state parks.
