Yesterday, a judge barred Fifth & Hill Gang members from gathering on select downtown streets, a move city officials hope will reduce drug trade in the area. Additionally, city officials in Compton are looking to bar the Blood gang Mob Piru from congregating together in public and may file injunctions at all of the city's 50 gangs. (50!) Do injunctions like these work? No, says one gang intervention specialist who has worked in Compton. "It's better to invest in prevention programs that keep youth off the streets and from getting into gangs," he tells The Wave. Compton city officials remain more optimistic. [The Wave]
