Mariachi fans, rejoice. Developers are planning a 100,000-square-foot retail, office and residential project surrounding the Mariachi plaza, and close to the Boyle Hotel in Boyle Heights. Via the LA Times: "This is going to be the hottest place in L.A.," said architect Frank Villalobos of Barrio Planners Inc., which helped design the plaza. "It's going to be the center of mariachi culture." But some of the mariachi players, who pay $200 -$300 a month to live in the hotel, aren't enthused about all the changes. [LA Times]
