Home Depot, chased out of seemingly every pocket of Los Angeles, wants to open a Design Center (one of the chain's stores that shows models of appliances) at Studebaker Road and Loynes Drive in Long Beach, but there's concern that the site is part of the Los Cerritos Wetlands ecosystem. Many small creatures live in the area: Pacific tree frogs, rabbits and "numerous birds associated with wetlands such as osprey, the snowy egret and great-blue and black-crowned herons and gulls." Tomorrow a Los Angeles Superior Court judge will decide whether to "uphold his Dec. 11 decision that the EIR is inadequate, in part because it failed to study the wetlands issue..." [Press-Telegram]
