Following the New York Times' critique, here comes the Wall Street Journal: ""A mess" is how architect Renzo Piano described the Los Angeles County Museum of Art in 2001, when he was asked to compete for the chance to improve the museum's disjointed six-building agglomeration and add contemporary art galleries." Later: ""Mess" is still the operative word, though, for the museum's sprawling campus, despite Mr. Piano's best efforts." The San Francisco Chronicle critic remains lukewarm. But the San Diego Union Tribune, god bless 'em, has some positive things to say about BCAM, describing the "handsome edifice done in travertine marble, understated on the outside except for colorful embellishments like its red staircases and escalator."
