In a never-ending quest to stay as youthful as its residents, West Hollywood is launching the "Sunset Strip Beautification Project" to replace damaged sidewalks, improve roadway and crosswalk markings, upgrade traffic signal equipment, and plant street trees on the 75-year-old Strip. Down on San Vicente, the post office's exterior will be repainted, its newspaper racks and mailboxes relocated, and a new bike rack installed near the front entrance. The post office will also be rechristened, losing the stuffy "West Branch Station" moniker in favor of the even more uninspiring, "West Hollywood Station, 90069". Let the make-over commence.

Sunset Strip Beautification Project on
Thursday, February 21, 2008 and Tuesday, February 26, 2008
WEST HOLLYWOOD - Sunset Boulevard, also known as “The Sunset Strip,” and one of the most famous streets in the world, will be getting a face-lift after more than seventy-five years of use. The City of West Hollywood will hold two community meetings about the “Sunset Strip Beautification Project” on Thursday, February 21, 2008 at 2 p.m. at the House of Blues located at 8430 Sunset Boulevard and on Tuesday, February 26, 2008 at 7 p.m. at the Hyatt Hotel located at 8401 Sunset Boulevard. The community meetings will provide background on the project and give participants the opportunity to share thoughts and ask questions about the project.
The Sunset Strip Beautification Project will include the following improvements:
• Pavement resurfacing;
• Replacing damaged sidewalks;
• Improving roadway and crosswalk markings;
• Upgrading traffic signal equipment; and
• Planting street trees.
The City plans to construct the project in phases to reduce the impact to residents and businesses in the area. The City recently hired Harris & Associates to
draw up the construction plans for the project. The Harris & Associates team has done a number of signature street projects for many cities in the Los Angeles County and Orange County areas.

U.S. Post Office Formerly Named “West Branch Station” to Have Face-Lift and Name Change Revealed on

WHAT: The U.S. Post Office location formerly named “West Branch Station” is getting a face-lift and a name change which will be revealed at an Unveiling Ceremony and News Conference on Tuesday, February 19, 2008 at 4:30 p.m. at the U.S. Post Office building located at 820 N. San Vicente Boulevard. The City of West Hollywood, the Office of U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein and the United States Postal Services (USPS) have joined together to complete this important project.
The newly renamed U.S. Post Office will be known as “West Hollywood Station, 90069.” Cosmetic improvements to the Post Office include:
• Repainting of the building’s exterior surface;
• Relocation of newspaper racks currently located in front of the building;
• Relocation of mailboxes; and
• Installation of a bike rack near the front entrance.
