Fighting Marymount College Over Dorms, More

New, 15 comments

Already, it's been a nearly 10-year battle for Marymount College to see its expansion plans even fully discussed, and now the two-year liberal arts Catholic college in Rancho Palos Verdes is still battling neighbors over plans to add dorms (currently, students are housed in apartment buildings in San Pedro), a new library and athletic facilities, according to the Daily Breeze's Melissa Pamer. That's tough--students can't even live on campus? As far as those fighting the project, this is the stance of Concerned Citizens Coalition/Marymount Expansion, which recently registered as a non-profit (so they have more legal power): "...residents in the hilly surrounding neighborhoods are staunchly opposed to the proposed athletic facilities and the dorms, which they say will destroy a relatively peaceful coexistence by turning the campus into a 24-hour institution." The Rancho Palos Verdes Planning Commission will meet tonight to discuss the project. [Daily Breeze]
