Curbed Poll: Bixby Estate in Los Feliz

New, 17 comments

Welcome to this version of "New To Market," our look at a listing with a reader vote. Consider this an unscientific way to take the buying pulse of a wary public. Feedback and nominees to the tipline, please.

We'll admit that we are kind of excited to see this estate hit the MLS. The Bixby Estate in Los Feliz, designed by Elmer Grey, is now on the market. Good ol' Elmer is the architect behind the Beverly Hills Hotel, the Huntington Art Gallery, the Pasadena Playhouse and Wattles Mansion, so if nothing else, this house has provenance. Plus, there is the Bixby connection, whose paterfamilias, Jotham Bixby, is known as the "Father of Long Beach." This estate, built in 1919 for Stafford W Bixby, has four bedrooms, four baths and "occupies its own private, 3/4 acre+, walled park." Updated amenities include a "chef's eat-in kitchen, grand master suite, swimmer's pool, guest cottage, studio)." Yet the current owner is going to take a loss. The last sale price, in 2005 was $4.2 million (and in 2003, it sold for $3.2 million). Today's asking price: $3.995 million or $675 per square foot. Listing is here.
