As LA-based architects increasingly look to rich(er) lands for new projects, we hear chatter that Pritzker Prize winner Thom Mayne's Morphosis is in the running to design a new military museum in Abu Dhabi. The competition has been narrowed to three US-based firms (including a New York firm and one in Denver), with Mayne still in the running. Representatives from the three firms will be in Abu Dhabi in January to present their final models, and are then asked to remain in the city until Sheik Sultan bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan makes his final decision. Caltrans HQ already looks fortified -- will that give Mayne the edge?
