The transit-oriented developments built around the Hollywood/Western subway stop have proved to be a disappointment, writes SoapBoxLA. The intersection should be the "poster child for LA's TOD movement," but throw in fortress architecture, around-the-clock porn (the X Spot store), and the empty "Thai hot-dog," and the opportunity is spoiled. Well, there are some perks to the area, according to the blog: At the Starbucks, there's "the opportunity to sit on the narrow sidewalk and engage in the ongoing sunflower seed-spitting contest that never seems to end." SoapBoxLA calls for city leaders to turn this blightmare into something resembling the area around the Hollywood/Vine subway stop, an unmitigated success.
