Even though that hail-a-taxi pilot program launched in parts of the city this summer, it doesn’t look like that many downtowners are actually trying to flag down the suckers. The web site for the Downtown Center Business Improvement District (DCBID) says it’s a Catch-22 situation (people may not know about the program, so cabs don’t come out, for instance, and vice versus). Blogdowntown called it a chicken/egg situation. So the DCBID is launching “Taxicab Appreciation Week" from December 8 – 14, a program that aims to make people aware of new taxi rules, which allow drivers to pick up and drop off passengers just about anywhere. These flyers are up across downtown, while the taxi love reaches a crescendo on Monday at 11 a.m., with a "Taxi Driver Appreciation" event at the Nokia Plaza. Oh geez.
