A Waldorf for Beverly Hills? Measure H Failing**

New, 25 comments

By a narrow vote of 6,326 to 6,258, Beverly Hills residents rejected a measure that would have resulted in a new Waldorf Astoria and a renovated Hilton hotel (seen above). Among other concerns, opponents feared increased traffic at the Wilshire and Santa Monica blvd intersection. More via the Beverly Hills Courier: "The loss was a very sudden turn of events. As of The Courier's midnight press time Tuesday night, Measure H was ahead by eight percentage points. With only three of 23 precincts counted, the measure was leading 1,819 to 1,573." A hugely contentious issue among Beverly Hills residents, the project was approved by the Beverly Hills City Council in May, but a petition drive put the development on the November ballot. Update: The Courier notes, as we should have, that this is "semi-final counts; the final vote tally is pending from the Registrar’s office." **Updated again, headline changed: More via the Courier: ".. Official results will not be released until the end of November, weekly updates will be posted every Friday." SEE UPDATE HERE and headline changed again.
