Crenshaw District: Suburban Paradise Still Possible

New, 8 comments

In advance of the Expo Line opening in about a year and a half (cross your fingers), the Community Redevelopment Agency of LA County has commissioned an exhaustive draft vision plan for the Crenshaw District, which will be bisected by the light-rail line. Currently, there are too many gas stations, fast-food joints, and surface parking lots to the CRA's liking. The CRA describes the CD as a "destination with[out] a sense of place... with increased urbanization this earlier view of a car-oriented suburban paradise is bygone." The CRA hopes to create walkable streets, encourage better businesses, and build transit oriented districts, including six unique pedestrian-friendly areas, "each with its own identity." Lots of pretty pictures and maps in this 134-page manifesto.
