Park Report

New, 42 comments

The LA Times' Bob Pool covered yesterday's Hollywood Freeway Cap Park meeting at Helen Bernstein High School, reporting that about 80 people showed up, most of whom were supportive of capping a portion of the freeway between Bronson Avenue and Santa Monica Boulevard to make a 44-acre park. Even though such parks exist from Boston to Mercer Island, Washington, Pool asks the question: Are motorists going to lose it when they have to drive through a tunnel at rush hour? "We didn't have a psychologist on board," says Mike Williams, senior associate with EDAW Inc, which prepared the study. Meanwhile, City Councilman Tom LaBonge also mentioned that he wants a similar park cap that would extend from around Olvera Street to the Civic Center (previous downtown park coverage here).
