The Iraqi government is planning on building a subway system for their congested and polluted capital (see picture), reports the Associated Press on ABC News.com. Plans call for two lines—each about 12 miles long—traversing Sunni and Shiite neighborhoods, and the nation's bureaucrats have already earmarked $3 billion for the project with almost no private investment needed, says the Guardian. No timeline has been released, but it could be in operation before our Purple Line extension is up and running; something tells us Baghdad officials will be less interested than Metro in all those community meetings and environmental impact reports.
