Prefab Urban Farm: Michelle Kaufmann's Hearth Design

New, 10 comments

Because prefab architect Michelle Kaufmann is up in Oakland, she's not featured on the site as often as those other local prefab architects. And perhaps it's hard to imagine these homes set in Los Angeles, but meet "The Hearth," her seventh prototype. A three-bedroom home that's about 2,800 square feet, its design is described as "modern farm house." Notably, there's a central hearth space/bookshelf component in the middle of the home. The framing is wood, but the siding can be anything from wood to steel to cement board. Like her other homes, it costs about a $150-$250 a square foot to build (that price lowers if it's a part of a development), and the home has all those green, sustainable features that her company is known for.
