ConstructionWatch: Waterworld Plus Parking On Ninth

New, 6 comments

It's not entirely clear if Downtown even needs or wants more new rental buildings, but 717 Ninth continues to rise up off its big hunk of a parking garage. Don't you look just like cousin 1100 Wilshire, 717? According to the Downtown News, the folks at Meruelo Maddux Properties, who got a $84 million construction loan back in August (just in time), once said that this 35-story residential tower and its shimmering glass would be an "aquatic metaphor" for the city. Meanwhile, the News notes construction on the 214-unit waterworld will be done by September 2009, while there are also plans for retail and a restaurant (a seafood joint, natch). And in the last shot: Development Concerto, the other of the Ninth Street-area twins. Photos: Dan Caroselli
