Battle Over Downtown, Round 1: AMP Lofts

New, 14 comments

Things are getting feisty already! Following last week's decision to limit development in downtown's industrial area, Councilman Jose Huizar will ask the council to override both the city planning department and its commission and ok AMP Lofts, a planned 182-unit condo complex at the corner of Santa Fe Avenue and and 7th Street. Writes the LA Times: "This is a battle worth watching. It pits Huizar against [Gail] Goldberg and [Cecilia] Estolano, two of Villaraigosa's big hires, and demonstrates yet again that when it comes to planning Los Angeles, the City Council usually tries to have the last say." Last month, Blogdowntown wrote about the proposed project-- details include a main, five-story unit with 342 parking spaces on the first three levels. [Images via Koning Eizenberg Architecture]
