De La Hoya Is Back! Buying Sears Property After All

New, 9 comments

Boxer Oscar De La Hoya has inked a new deal to purchase the Sears property in Boyle Heights, reports the Los Angeles Business Journal. Last summer, De La Hoya’s company, Golden Boy Enterprises, had agreed to spend $70 million for the 22-acre site, but the deal with property owner Mark Weinstein fell apart late last year. The Journal doesn't have the details of this more recent deal, but apparently De La Hoya still plans to build a mixed-use development on the site. As the Journal initially noted, De La Hoya used to shop at the Sears store with his mom when he was just a wee little boxer. In addition to this Boyle Heights deal, the area is also getting the promise of the $2 billion Wyvernwood Garden Apartments development.
