Lennar Breaks into Solar Energy, Makes Us Feel Good About Sprawl

New, 12 comments

Back to the basics. So your home can't exactly be rebuilt with all the newfangled enviro-friendly upgrades, and you're certainly not living in a shipping container, but solar may be an option. At least it is for these new sprawly homes from Lennar. The West Creek subdivision project in Valencia is affixing integrated solar panels atop its homes, becoming the first solar community in LA County, we are told. Unlike the previous big black panels you normally associate with sun power, these things actually look okay - they mimic the appearance of roof tiles - and supposedly generate enough power to actually power your flat screen and Wii at the same time. Hopefully the energy generated will offset the energy consumed to drive the family Hummer to pick up the kids from soccer practice.
