Far away in Washington, D.C., the Senate voted to lift the ban on federal funding for construction under Wilshire Boulevard west of Western Avenue. Which means our Subway to Sea, the planned subway to Santa Monica--and dreams of commuting to and fro--may be realized. The whole thing got stalled back in 1985 when Rep. Henry Waxman warned of a methane explosion if we'd burrowed underground, but subsequent tests have proven all is OK. Next, the bill goes to a Senate-House conference for some sort of re-write nonsense.
