This AM we received an email from a concerned emailer regarding a strange hum or vibration heard throughout Santa Monica and Venice on Saturday night. Some might say it's the plaintive wail of thousands of gays over the loss of Micky's in West Hollywood or possibly a publicity hum designed to excite us in anticipation of that new J.J. Abrams Cloverfield thing. Here's the email:
Did you or anyone you know hear a strange low humming/vibrating type sound that was on-going for about 15 minutes saturday night?! It was awfully strange! A friend of mine said she heard it too and saw lights coming from the beach, but I dont know what it was or where it came from but I heard it and it wasn't my neighbors surround-sound or anything in the street. We asked our Santa Monica friend GROD, who also reported hearing a strange sound. "It sounded like protracted rolling thunder... it was loud... The only thing i could imagine is fireworks, but that's not what it sounded like. Not big bangs. Just a long rumbling." Can anyone clarify what it was that so many heard so we can put this mystery to rest? Thank you.
