Tough spot. Any suggestions--and besides "just move"?

I live in a rental in Silver Lake, in a house divided into four units. My bedroom and hallway are right next to my neighbor's bathroom. That's the problem. I hear the neighbors going to the bathroom and I hear them doing NUMBER 2. It's almost EVERY MORNING and let's just say there are the associated noises and then the flush. It's horrible. Is there any kind of siding I can put up, or can I hold my landlord responsible for any quality of life issues?
